Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza (Ash Gaming/Playtech)
Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is a DC Comics slot game released by Ash Gaming in November 2016 and it focuses on the original Batman TV series by 20th Century Fox that ran from 1966 to 1968. This slot game will bring back memories for the fans of the original show, and all modern Batman fans will be vividly reminded of the quality of the 1960s Batman as there’s original TV series footage in this game. You’ll get to see real footage of Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl, with Alan Napier as Alfred making a non-animated appearance on your reels.
The entire slot game feels like a welcome addition to the TV series as it features all the most important references to the show, embedding them into this slot game for maximum fun. The main cast of three plus Aflred is joined by five more symbols: Motorbike, Radio, Statue, Batarang and Batman’s Belt. Everything you could possibly need for some old-fashioned superhero fun.
One notable omission in this slot is, sadly, that there are no villains, just the positive fun stuff. The game could have used a bit more depth here. But this is barely noticeable unless you have someone tell you that in a slot game review, and this is one fun slot game with quality graphics. A truly fun playing experience.
The number of paylines is fixed at 60, the minimum bet per spin is $0.30, while the maximum bet is $30. The maximum win during the base game is 2000x your bet per payline, and this is awarded when you get five Wilds. The three main symbols also produce substantial wins. The biggest possible win in this slot game, of course, is the Grand DC Comics jackpot, which can be triggered randomly on any spin.
Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is a 5-reel slot, but the first two reels have only two symbols each, while the remaining three have four symbols each, for a total of 16 symbols on your reel set. Bat Sign is the Wild symbol, and it substitutes for all symbols except Scatter. The bigger reels can, among other symbols, host stacked symbols of Batman, Robin and Batgirl. Stacked symbols can appear on their own, or two of them can appear side by side on the same reel. These three co-op symbols can stand for either character to create wins.
It’s no wonder this slot game uses the co-op between symbols, as it’s a reference to the team between Batman and Robin, Batman and Batgirl, and Robin and Batgirl. Can’t fight crime alone!
The two small reels function as a single unit of four symbols, and when you land four matching symbols (helped by co-op and Wild symbols if necessary) you’ll win 5 Bat-tastic Re-spins. All symbols in the first two reels lock for the re-spins. Depending on the quality of the symbol which triggers the Bat-tastic re-spins and your luck with the big reels, you’ll get anything between a small boost of your normal win and a massive payout. Winning $1400 on a $15 bet per spin during the Bat-tastic Re-spins feature isn’t unheard of. So do look forward to this one.
Batman Team-up Free Games
Bonus Scatter symbol appears on reels 3, 4 and 5, and when you land one on each reel, you’ll trigger Batman Team-up Free Games. You’ll see a selection of boxes you need to pick, and depending on your choices you’ll get 12, 17 or 25 free spins. During the free spins, the two small reels will host one giant symbol, while the remaining three will be spinning normally. This setup has the potential of producing some major wins, and Batman Team-up Free Games is the most rewarding feature in this slot game, other than the progressive jackpot, of course.
DC Super Heroes Progressive Jackpot
This game is part of the DC Super Heroes progressive jackpot, as although Ash Gaming did create this game it was made for their parent company Playtech. The DC Super Heroes jackpot is a multi-progressive feature with 4 jackpots that can be won: Mini, Minor, Major and Grand. The jackpot feature is triggered randomly in any of the slot games that are part of this feature – ten of them at the moment when this game was released – and entry to the feature guarantees you’ll win one of the four jackpots.
Value and payout
The game doesn’t pay often at all, and tends to annoy you with $1 wins on a $15 bet. This slot has higher variance and is for the more patient players, but patience will be rewarded as this slot game can and will produce big wins that will immediately pay you for the time spent spinning the reels in vain. Play for long enough and you will get that big win. The way this game is supposed to be played is to dedicate a longer session to it, and hope you’ll get the better part of the possible winning combinations during that time.
Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is a fantastic slot game with a great theme and interesting bonus features, plus that progressive jackpot. Theoretical return to player is 96%, though the game feels the payout is much better – if you enter one of the bonus features early in your playing session. All in all, it’s good enough, and the game has the potential of paying some serious money. Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza is definitely a welcome addition to both the superhero slots range and to the Batman-themed slots.
